Tequila maquila: the bridge between tradition and new brands

The world of tequila is not only moved by the big names we see in every bar or supermarket. Behind many bottles, there is a business model that has driven the growth of new brands: tequila maquila.

This system allows entrepreneurs, investors, or companies to create their own brand without the need to have their own distillery. Through the maquila, a producer authorized by the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT) is responsible for producing the beverage following all official standards, from the cooking of the agave to the bottling.

The interesting thing is that this scheme does not sacrifice quality. Many tequila houses offer different tequila profiles—blanco, reposado, añejo—adapted to the market that the client seeks: from premium proposals to higher volume options. Thus, the maquila becomes a strategic way to bring new labels to the world that, although they share the same origin in the fields of Jalisco, express unique styles according to the vision of each brand.

In a context where tequila is the most exported Mexican beverage in the world, the maquila not only encourages entrepreneurship but also preserves the value of the agave and the cultural legacy behind each glass.
